As your counsellor, I understand how hard it can be to reach out for support and I am glad you took the first step. I strive to make the process of therapy feel supportive, safe and nonjudgemental to allow you to be your whole, unfiltered authentic self.
I’m an emotion focused, somatic therapist. This means that I work relationally and with a deep understanding of the nervous system and the mind -body connection.
My clients come to me feeling stuck in negative patterns: in relationships, work, perfectionism, avoidance, people pleasing…and they don’t understand why they keep doing the same things over and over despite understanding that it’s not good for them. They carry a lot of self-blame and shame and feel confused and powerless.
My goal is to help you feel empowered and in control of living a life aligned with your values, not trapped in the past.
In therapy, we will identify the negative cycles that keep you stuck, explore why you learned to cope that way, and help you develop new ways of being in relationships and in the world.
I understand that nothing happens in isolation. The way that we have developed comes from the relational systems we have had with family, relationships, culture and society. Each of us has our unique story: our challenges and strengths. This is why I incorporate a variety of my training: in attachment theory, somatic therapy, emotion focused therapies (specialized for individual, couples, and family) trauma therapy, and a variety of others to support you. I work from a culturally sensitive, gender inclusive, anti-oppressive lens and am committed to continual training and development so that I can best support you.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association for Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and have a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology. In addition to private practice, I have worked with Vancouver Coastal Health in mental health and addictions for many years where I provided counselling, educational workshops, and support to young people and their parents. I have facilitated family therapy and parenting workshops using techniques from Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) and have lead DBT groups for teens.
Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens within us (our body’s, attachment & nervous system) and between us (relationally).”
