EMDR Counselling in North Vancouver & Online Across BC

Some experiences stay with us long after they happen. You might understand what happened intellectually, but your body still reacts as though it’s happening now.

EMDR can help you process distressing experiences, reduce their emotional intensity, and create more space for you to respond differently in the present.

When the past still feels present, EMDR can help you move forward.

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

It is a structured, evidence-based approach that uses bilateral stimulation and guided attention to help the brain process distressing or overwhelming experiences.

You don't need to retell every detail of what happened. Instead, EMDR helps you work with the memories, emotions, beliefs, and body sensations that are still affecting you today.

The goal isn't to erase your memories, but make them less distressing in the present and It's to help the past feel more like the past.

EMDR Counselling

At Nomii, we understand that some experiences don't fully resolve on their own, they stay stored in the nervous system, surfacing as anxiety, reactivity, or patterns that feel hard to shift no matter how much insight we gain.

EMDR is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps the brain reprocess distressing or stuck memories so they lose their emotional charge. Using bilateral stimulation alongside guided attention, we help clients move experiences from a place of activation into one of integration, without needing to relive or narrate every detail.

This approach is especially effective for trauma, anxiety, phobias, grief, and experiences shaped by systemic or cultural harm. It can also support nervous system regulation for those navigating neurodivergence or attachment wounds.

Rather than only talking about what happened, EMDR works with how it's still showing up, helping the past feel more like the past, and freeing up space for the present.

When Something Feels Stuck

You don’t have to have one defining traumatic experience to benefit from EMDR. Sometimes what feels stuck is a specific memory. Other times, it’s a pattern that keeps showing up in your relationships, anxiety, body, or sense of self.

You may notice:

  • Feeling activated by situations that seem disproportionate to what’s happening

  • Anxiety, fear, or panic that feels difficult to control

  • Recurring memories or experiences that continue to affect you

  • Feeling disconnected, numb, or overwhelmed

  • Phobias or specific fears

  • Grief or loss that feels difficult to process

  • Relationship patterns connected to past experiences

  • A strong emotional or physical response to certain people, places, or situations

EMDR can help you understand and work with these responses without needing to simply “think your way out” of them.
